NOMAnash celebrates Juneteenth! Juneteenth is also known as Freedom Day, Jubilee Day,and Liberation Day. Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration of the ending of slavery. It is the day, June 19, 1865 when the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that all slaves were now free. NOMAnash hopes that everyone uses this day to reflect and celebrate the end of a dark period in American history from 1619 to 1865 which was rooted in brutality, but in essence exposed the bravery and perseverance of a people. Humanity prevailed and will continue to prevail as we navigate the un-doing years of slavery and stand up against, fight, and overcome racial injustices.
NOMAnash members and their families celebrate at Nashville’s African Roots Festival 2020.
